Bad Habits: Irish Goodbyes & Jewish Goodbyes - 2 SHOWS 2 GO

  • Annoyance Theatre 367 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11211 United States (map)

BAD HABITS is a weekly social experiment / improvisational show.

Each week, the cities most degenerate, despicable, and deplorable improvisers are split up into two groups and challenged to give up OR indulge in their BAD HABITS for the sake of comedy.

It's the end of a long, long day. You've been out hanging with some friends, maybe partying, definitely drinking. It's past your bedtime and you haved ended up at some overcrowded bar you don't like or at the apartment of a person you either dislike or don't know. "What are you doing?! Why are you doing this to yourself?" you wonder. You decide to leave but know that if you do , you'll be forced to stick around and depart with your group. Quite the predicament. What do you do?

Some recommend you do something called: "Ghosting." Others call the this move a "French Exit." But I've always referred to this phenomenon as the "Irish Goodbye." The Irish Goodbye: You leave without saying a single word to a single person. The expression has stereotypical and negative connotations, but for some reason it hasn't stopped anyone from using it.

Funny enough, there's another stereotypical expression that exists as the antithesis to the 'Irish Goodbye" known as the "Jewish Goodbye." What is it? Well, if you're Jewish this should come as no surprise. It is when you are departing a social setting and say goodbye to everyone, except, you never actually leave. Some times it lasts an hour, other times it lasts the whole night. Being Jewish, I can confirm this is a real thing.

For this weeks show, the cast has been split up into two different groups: The Irish Goodbye and the Jewish Goodbye.
